Wide Open Spaces

Suburb: noun; an outlying district of a city, especially a residential one. Suburbs have been around since the earliest walled cities have been in existence. In fact, the word “suburban” is attributed to  the Roman statesman Cicero in reference to the large villas and estates built by the wealthy patricians of Rome on the city's outskirts. Even so, I’d argue that it wasn’t until the motorized carriage (you know, the car) was made affordable by Henry Ford in the early 20th century that the ‘burbs became what was know them today. Odd thing is, it looks like the ‘burbs are quickly becoming the ‘urbs.

Patience is something that has been lost to the annals of time. This is especially true when it comes to our United States sensibility of self-importance. It is doubly true when referring to airline travel. Patience is a virtue and we Americans don’t have any. Consider this photo for a moment.

Bah Humbug!...A Christmas Carol in Minnesota, Part 1

As you may or may not recall, each year Rizzo and I find the time to see A Christmas Carol live on stage during the holiday season (take a read of some previous years by clicking here). Over the past few years we have stayed close to home because in 2014 Cece wasn’t even a year old and in 2015 Cece was still a little tyke so we only left for one night. Now that Cece has grown up to be a young whipper snapper of 2 ½ we felt that we could take a longer adventure. With that in mind, Rizzo and I hopped on a plane and headed up to the land of ten thousand lakes, Minnesota.

What did you say?

Being a parent comes with many challenges, including the challenge of watching what you say. I'm the type of person that likes to curse but now Cece is in that repeating age so I have to watch what I say so she won't go up to strangers and start cursing them out for fun. You can also make statements about and around kids that have a completely different meaning when taken out of context. Rizzo and I had and continue to have lots of these moments. Here are just a few of my favorite statements made that can be completely inappropriate when taken out of context.
