Run Run...Weekly Weight Update
Summer is drawing to a close and I for one and looking forward to the end. I don’t get along well with the heat. A run that was pretty easy and quick in March or April has turned into an agonizing 40 minutes of non-stop sweat and near heat stroke. I’m looking forward to the cool evenings where I can see my breath with each stride on my run and feel the chill tingle my nose.
The week started off with a run of Herculean proportions but not one run by me. As you have read for many weeks, Rizzo has been kicking my ass all over the place in our Bring It On! challenge as she trained for her 20K race. Sunday was the big race day and I couldn’t have been more proud to stand on the sidelines and cheer her to the finish.
Cece and I hung out in downtown Leesburg while Rizzo ran and ran and ran. For over two hours she ran up and down the W&OD trail. It wasn’t until the end of the race, right at the finish line, did we get to see how well she was doing. Every after 12 miles of running Rizzo still had a smile on her face. Sure, her race forced me to skip my OrangeTheory Fitness workout but it was worth it to see her succeed (yes, that did seem passive aggressive. I was trying to figure out a way to make a passive aggressive joke but I couldn’t figure out how to make it funny. They’re not all winners.
Compares to Rizzo’s 12.4 mile jaunt on Sunday my weekly workouts seem very tame. I went out for a run on Sunday afternoon and probably released more sweat during my 3.5 miles than Rizzo did during her 12.4. Rizzo and Cece were outside playing when I got back so they got to witness the grossness of my sweat-filled shirt. I should have recorded a video of me literally ringing out enough sweat to fill at least a 20 ounce water bottle, if not more. I know “working up a sweat” is a good thing but if your shirt can be rung out like a washcloth after taking a shower then you may need to get out of the heat.
Tuesday was much cooler and my run was much more relaxed. Rizzo had purchased a hand-held water bottle that was designed specifically for running to use during her race. I took it with me to see if having readily accessible water would help me “beat the heat” during the summer. It actually just turned out to be annoying. I did like having the water when my mouth would get dry but I don’t know if it was worth it because after awhile you are still just stuck carrying this water.
The rest of the work week was fairly basic. Dad and I have a saying when we are talking and nothing much is going on. “Go to work, come home, go to sleep.” Sure, more goes on during the week than those three things but it are way of saying there isn’t anything to report; just a standard few days of going to the routine. When part of the routine includes an hour long class at OrangeTheory Fitness that kicks your ass it isn’t such a bad thing.
I must admit that I was looking forward to Saturday arriving. Not just because it means the weekend, and we’re all working for the weekend, but because Rizzo and I made plans for my parents (Gege and Dede) to watch Cece in the morning while we did some work around the house. Even though the plan was to do yard work, clean out the garage, and get grocery shopping done I was still looking forward to spending time with Rizzo, just the two of us.
After dropping Cece off at my parents house on Saturday, Rizzo and I hit the farmer’s market to gather our produce for the week and to grab an empanada. When we got back to the house we immediately got hard at work organizing and cleaning our garage. It’s amazing how quickly a space like a garage can turn into a disaster. It only took us three years to turn our garage from perfectly clean to a space to dump any and everything we could fine. With just a few hours of hard work we turned the garage into a space any professional organizer would be proud to call home. We rewarded ourselves with a tasting at Beltway Brewing Company (Beer Snob blog to come) and then made our way through the rest of our day.
Despite, or as a result of, my inability to sleep this week (I didn’t get more than 3 hours on any given night. Big news on that next week. Stay tuned) I did a good job getting back in the weight loss swing. I dropped 2.8 lbs this week bringing the current weight down to 206.8 and the total weight loss back below 60 at 60.2. It was a good week that I’m looking forward to continuing as we get into the school year.
Rizzo dominated the Bring It On! challenge this week all thanks to her 12.4 consecutive mile run on Sunday. For the week, Rizzo racked up 41.2 miles compared to my puny 36.6. I tried my best to make up the difference from Sunday and cut into her lead but when she runs a 20K it is hard to catch up. It looks like Rizzo will be winning again in August as she leads 136.8 to 131.1. She better hurry up and pick her reward. #IHopeIWinOneWeek.
