Overexamined Life...Weekly Weight Update

Overexamined Life...Weekly Weight Update

This week will be short and this week will be sweet because this weekend Rizzo and I are enjoying some R&R sans Cece. That’s right, my mom and dad showed why they are the best grandparents on the planet and took Cece for the weekend while Rizzo and I shipped off to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. I’m sure I’ll get you a blog about our weekend but since I’m taking the weekend off from blogging (sort of) I’m going to provide you with a short poem I wrote then conclude with an update on the weight loss and the Bring It On! challenge. We will get back to our regularly scheduled programming next week.

This is poem I wrote after being reminded that everything that is said or done doesn’t have to be torn down, torn apart, or re-examined to get to the true meaning. It is titled Overexamined Life.

The unexamined life is not worth living
Not to confess what is best, nothing more, nothing less
Never able to detect what may vex or cause stress
Avoid yearning for the learning that keeps our world turning

The overexamined life is not really lived
Overly redress the distress of a life that isn’t a mess
Repeating words to infer meaning never referred
Creating fear that can sear any happiness that may appear

Live the life you are handed and learn from mistakes
But don’t create deeper meaning for philosophy’s sake
Sometimes the message is clear and must be espoused
But sometimes shit happens, get passed it, move on.

The unexamined life is not worth living
So look deep inside to find what is really worthwhile
The overexamined life is not really lived
So relax, enjoy the world, and maybe just smile

Non-scale Victory

I didn’t exactly plan to report a non-scale victory each week I didn’t have the chance to do my regular Sunday weigh-ins but I’m glad I started the trend and plan to keep it up. This week (as I have already said) Rizzo and I are out of town so I don’t have access to scale. The non-scale victory comes from both Rizzo and I hitting the streets of Chincoteague to get in a run before spending the rest of the day relaxing. It was hotter than hell and approximately 478% humidity (I rounded up) but we made sure to get in 3.5 miles before hitting the beach. It was hot and we were sweaty but it was definitely worth the effort.

Another week and another Bring It On! challenge victory for Rizzo. I was hoping that when she forgot her FitBit last night I would gather enough steps to overcome the shortfall that I had accumulated during the beginning of the week but it was not meant to be. One of these days I’m going to win a week but I don’t think it will be any time soon. Rizzo had 36.0 miles this week compared to my 35.3 miles. Both of these totals are pretty low but, hey, it’s the summer and we were on vacation so bite me! Rizzo is well on her way to seeing Bad Moms with a 125.4 to 114.8 lead but the final week is upon us and we aren’t travelling anywhere so I’m going to have to get out there and earn some miles.
