Chickens and Rain...Weekly Weight Update

Chickens and Rain...Weekly Weight Update

This week was dominated by two major events; a trip to a farm to start the week and my “professional” acting debut to end the week.

Dad, Mom, Carrie, Rizzo, Cece and I all piled into the van to make our way to Great Country Farms out in Bluemont, Virginia. It is a great place that allows kids of all ages to visit and feed with farm animals, watch cider being made, pan for gold, play on playgrounds, go for hayrides, and best of all, do some serious apple picking.

We made our way out to the farm to make sure we were there right when they opened at 9:00am to get in as much time as possible before the sleep deprived Cece started to make everyone’s life miserable. She did a great job and loved feeding all the animals with Aunt Carrie. Her favorite animals were the chickens and the pigs. She also loved climbing tire mountains with Dede (Dad) and driving the playground trucks with Gege (Mom).

Even with all of that I would have to say that her favorite part was apple picking. Well, not so much the picking part as the eating part. At the farm you have to take a wagon ride over to the orchards to pick the apples. Cece picked one or two apples but it was when she was handed an apple to start eating that she really fell in love. I think this was her first time eating an apple that wasn’t already sliced and she couldn’t get enough. She ate two whole apples before the we even left the orchards.

Great Country Farms is right across the street for an amazing looking brewery called Dirt Farm Brewing. It was late and we didn’t have the time to stop in to enjoy a full tasting but Rizzo and I wanted to grab a couple of crowlers to-go so we drove up the mountain. The place looks like a tasting room of a winery with a view that looks out onto the mountains that is just killer. We will definitely be making our way back to that brewery for a tasting one day but for now we just enjoyed a Pumpkin Ale and a Brown Ale. The pumpkin ale was pretty tasty but the brown ale tasted more like a dark IPA. It was still worth the trip.

The remainder of the week was pretty boring especially since it was mostly filled with rain. I was excited that the weather has cooled off dramatically so I got in a good, long run on Tuesday evening that felt great. Nothing like a five mile run to really get you feeling good again. Rizzo went out to a trivia night with friends for a “Mom’s Night Out” on Thursday so I had planned to get in my workout in the basement but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. The dampness and the darkness made me feel tired so instead I postponed my run to Friday and sat down to watch Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Amazon. That show is made for 36-year-old boys who grew up loving the action movies of Jean-Claude Van Damme. It is hilarious and I’m very excited that it was picked up so I’ll get to see more hilarity ensue as old-ass JCVD kicks ass again.

After a regular working day and a good 3.5 mile run on Friday it was getting geared up for my big day on Saturday. I’m not going to share much here because I plan to write an entire blog about it but I was in a professional theater production of Catch Me If You Can at NextStop Theater. I spent most of the day a nervous wreck but everyone at the show was amazing and helpful. I also spent the entire day without wearing a FitBit because, well, they didn’t have FitBits in the swinging 60s so I barely got any steps in which is definitely going to cause some issue with the challenge.

Being back at home eating on a regular schedule and getting in some good workouts really shows how much just eating right and on a regular schedule can affect weight. I gained five pounds last week because of a trip to Orlando for work which consisted of eating out constantly. I lost 4.6 of those pounds this week bringing the current weight down to 206.2 and making the total weight loss 61.8 pounds. Not a bad rebound after a big gain last week.

Spending all day on Saturday not wearing a FitBit was bound to cause some damage on this week's Bring It On! challenge but it didn’t really matter since Saturday was the first day of the new month. Besides, Rizzo had already kicked my ass for the month of September and is going to go see The Girl on the Train. That doesn’t matter because you know what? I have one more week at my current job. At the end of the week I plan on spending all my time walking and running constantly, like, 8 hours a day so I’m going to be getting in some mileage. Sucka!
