Make me a Sandwich!...Bring us some figgy pudding!

Last Christmas, Rizzo gave me a book that inspired me to try cooking something new every month for the year. The result of that cookbook was this year’s monthly segment, Make Me A Sandwich! Of the course of the year made a variety of things from roasting a chicken using a Bundt pan for Valentine’s Day to a soufflé cake that consisted primarily of eggs and olive oil. I truly enjoyed making all of these new things even if they didn’t turn out so well. I feel like I learned a lot about how to cook in general. Just ask Rizzo about how I now just make stuff up on the fly or make suggestions to her about how to cook stuff when she is doing the cooking. I’m sure it is annoying.

Make Me a (Turkey) Sandwich

Thanksgiving. That special time of year where millions of citizens of the United States gather to celebrate that time when Native American’s saved the white, European strangers only to be forced off their lands and nearly extinguished from the Earth by the same white, European strangers. To celebrate this massive oppression of a native culture we eat more food than any normal human should consume in a week and follow it up by falling asleep on the couch watching a game that consists entirely of men smashing into each other like rams fighting over the finest female in the flock. So, for this week’s cooking recipe it seemed appropriate to try to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Hot-Lanta...Weekly Weight Update

The week was full of ups and downs when it comes to managing weight and exercise. Sunday was the first full day spent in Atlanta after a very long day of traveling. We started the day by finding a local spot for breakfast so we made our way to the Atlanta Breakfast Club which was just a few steps away from our hotel and located directly across the street from the Coca-Cola experience in downtown Atlanta. The food was absolutely amazing. After seeing everyone sitting around us dining on the chicken and waffles I really wanted to get that southern delicacy but I also knew that I would be getting multiple chances and fried chicken during the few days I’d be in Atlanta. Instead I got a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, and cheese grits. It was out of this world good and if you are looking for a place to get some breakfast in Atlanta make sure to look this place up.

In the Desert…Weekly Weight Update

The week started out with a bang. I knew I was going to be going out of town for work for the week so I wanted to make sure that I got in a good workout. I woke up and headed over to Orange Theory Fitness first thing on Sunday morning. That workout always destroys me but I suppose that is a good thing. The best part was running into my good friend, Melanie, in the parking lot. She was on her way in while I was on my way out. There isn’t anything quite as nice as running into an old friend.

Make me a sandwich!...Alchemy of Baking

When it comes to methods of cooking, baking has always scared the hell out of me. Throwing something in a frying pan or on a grill makes sense in my neanderthal brain. Meat + Fire = Good! Maybe toss some salt and pepper on that bad boy and then you're on your way. However, baking is too much like going to chemistry class to possibly be real. Only some sort of witch could mix together 17 different powdery substances with an egg and some water to create a delicious cake. I assume there had to be some blood of a newt or the hair off a dragon's ass in order to make baking a reality.
