Periodic Poundage Update - Slowing Down

Periodic Poundage Update - Slowing Down

It has been well over a month since the last poundage update. When I last reported I had just started into intermittent fasting. Over seven weeks later I’m happy to report that, for the most part, this has continued to work for me. I haven’t changed my eating habits much but just the fact that I only allow myself to eat between 11am and 7pm has made a big difference.

Some days are easier than others but having this kind of schedule prevents me from eating my feelings. Those feelings are usually frustration after trying to get the 6-year-old to stay in her room for bedtime or preventing the 2-year-old from ripping the house down brick-by-brick. What I wouldn't give for a cold beer after everyone has gone to bed. But that was my problem. It wouldn’t be one cold beer. It would be a cold beer, a bowl of popcorn, a granola bar, a few handfuls of goldfish, and perhaps some ice cream.

Cutting off the time has made it easier to cut back on everything else. I still drink beer. I love beer. I have beer at dinner. I may even have two beers depending on how the day goes. But I rarely have any beers after 7pm unless there is something special happening. I still have ice cream but always during the allotted time. Will it work for everyone? Maybe not but it seems to be working for me.

A few other things have happened since the last update. I ran a race. It was my first 5k since surgery or since the COVID-19 lockdown. I found this Wonder Woman Virtual 5K. I signed up and was sent a number, a medal, a jacket, and some wristbands. I felt like it was the hottest day of the year when I decided to go for a run but I did a pretty good job. I ran the 5k in 28:48 which is just 12 seconds from my personal best. Not bad for an old man.

I also caved and got my hair cut. I was sweating like an animal and had the opportunity to get my hair cut in a private residence (my parent’s house) by a professional so I could be safe and didn’t have to worry about all the public Covid-19 germs. You don’t really know how gross you look until you get a haircut then you can see how really gross you were. It was, well, gross.

At the last update back in May, I weighed in at 216.8 lbs. That was right at the beginning of intermittent fasting. While I will say that the dramatic reduction has slowed down, the weight loss is still coming along pretty steady as I continue to intermittent fast. Since the last update, I have lost another 7.4 lbs over 7 weeks bringing me down to 209.4. That is down 7.2% of my total body weight. I’m also getting pretty close to the lowest weight I’ve been as an adult. My lowest adult weight is 205. My goal is to get down that low before the end of the summer and maybe, just maybe, I’ll have a one as my first digit before the end of the year for the first time in my adult life. We will see how it goes.

Stay healthy!

And now, some pictures.

And now the scariest part. I’m going to share two pictures of me with no shirt. I think there is some visual improvement but that doesn’t make it any less nerve racking to share pictures with no shirt on. It isn’t like I’m Kumail Nanjiani. So, if you dare, feel free to look lower but I warn you, it isn’t pretty.

Keep going. I’m going to make you work to see this jelly.

There. I did it. I’m sorry.
