Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

I document my stupid

Podcasting

Podcasting

One of my earliest blogs was about podcasting and my newfound love of podcasts. I gave some background on what a podcast is and some of my favorites back in Video Killed the Radio Star. Just like your favorite TV shows will change so will your favorite podcasts. Interest change as you live your life and new shows are continually being produced that will provide even more and more content. In this two part blog, I’ll be providing you with some of my current favorites. I highly recommend you give a listen to each and everyone of these podcasts but even if you don’t like them know that there is a podcast that covers everything so keep looking and you will find a podcast that you’ll love.

The Mike O’Meara Show - As is listed right on the The Mike O’Meara Show website, this podcast is “fun mash-up of real life, pop-culture, news of the day, dynamic audio clips, and three guys busting each others' balls.” Many may remember a very popular radio show from the popular days of talk radio called The Don and Mike Show. Well, that Mike has moved on and through many changes has created what is, in my opinion, the best daily podcast you can find. I love that it is a daily conversation between three guys that involve topics to which I can relate. One day they may be talking about eating way too much and the next they will be commenting about the current political climate in our country. It is fun and entertaining. I think the best part is that they are simply talking about their every-day lives. You start to feel like friends, even family, with three guys that you have never even met. The show is a blast!

James Bonding - I included this podcast in the Video Killed the Radio Star post but I felt I needed to include it again here since so much has changed since the last time I blogged on the topic. Back then, in the good old days, Matt Mira and Matt Gourley would simply watch a 007 film and give us the commentary that no one asked for but everyone needed. It was just for laughs. Now, under a new contractual obligation with Earwolf (don’t worry, they talk about the contractual number of episodes on the podcast all the time!) they Matts are not only revisiting the films with another commentary track but including more episodes that include ranking of best villain deaths, what would be included in a James Bond theme park, and comparing the Bond world to the Indiana Jones world with episodes of Indiana Jonesing mixed in. If you are a fan of 007 and you haven’t listed to this show then you are truly missing out on the greatest 007 content available outside of the cinema. They guys have even been included in an official 007 comic book so you know they are legit.

Ben Franklin’s World - Are you a history nerd? Do you get excited to read the latest biography of James Madison? Do you own a collection of all the Presidential pez dispensers? Well if you do then this podcast is for you. Hosted by Dr. Liz Covart, Ben Franklin’s World is “a podcast about early American history.” Each week, Liz is joined by a guest historian to explore a specific aspect of Early American history. I’ve always been fascinated with early American history (up until about 1840) and this podcast explores everything aspect you can imagine. Topics range from the obvious about Benjamin Franklin to the study of same-sex marriage in early America. If you think it sounds nerdy then you would be right but it is well produced, researched, and wonderfully informative. Every week I look forward to learning something new and getting another recommendation to add to my reading list.

Highlander Rewatched - Highlander is perhaps my favorite movie of all time. I love the idea of living forever and being able to witness history unfold before your eyes and then living long enough to really see the results. I love Highlander so much that I wrote an entire blog about it. I love Highlander so much that the three name options to give to our son were all from the Highlander universe (more in another blog). So when I learned that there was a weekly podcast looking at a different aspect of Highlander each and every week I immediately jumped on it. Hosts Keith, Kyle, and Eamon bring a wonderful perspective from true fans of the show. I also loved hearing the guys improve as podcasters. The show was clearly created by three friends that weren’t professional broadcasters that just wanted to talk about something they loved (not like I could do any better. I couldn’t). They have all grown improving the quality of production as well as quality of content. This podcast truly represents the backbone of podcasting in that no matter what it is that you love there is a podcast about it. Thank you, gentlemen.

I’ll be back next month with more podcast recommendations for you to check out. Until then, what podcasts do you take?
